37th Summer Lecture Series

A Brief History of the Refuge

Who were the Indigenous people who lived here and what happened to them? What is the Medicine Creek Treaty? What was Fort Nisqually? Who were the first American settlers to arrive and farm the Nisqually Delta? What was the Boldt Decision and why is it so important? How did the delta become a refuge? If your interest is piqued by any of these questions, join us!

Speaker: Christi McGinley, Volunteer for Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge Complex

Christi McGinley is a volunteer who might be seen at the Visitor Center, roving the trails, or just enjoying the refuge on her own time. She enjoys wandering down endless rabbit holes to find answers to historical questions surrounding the refuge.
