Sandhill Crane Fly-ins at Merced NWR
Join us at Merced NWR for an Evening Crane Fly-in: Would you like to learn about the sandhill cranes that spend the winter here in the San Joaquin Valley? If so, then join us for the Evening Sandhill Crane Fly-In. A refuge representative will give an interpretive presentation on the sandhill crane and the evening fly-in. Meet at the main entrance parking area for the presentation on the natural history of the sandhill cranes -- the bird naturalist Aldo Leopold called "wildness incarnate." Afterwards, participants will watch the fly-in as the cranes return to refuge wetlands to roost for the night. The event should last about 1.5 hours. Dress warmly. Bring binoculars and spotting scopes, if you have them. Feel free to bring along something warm to drink or snacks if you like. There is no need to sign up. For more information call the visitor center at 209-826-3517.
