Attention Northern Hardwood Cross-country Ski Trail Users.
Northern Hardwoods Cross-country ski trail users please be aware of the possibility of falling limbs/trees in the area. Due to Beech Bark Disease there are many dead trees in the hardwood forest, limbs or branches may fall unexpectedly. Use these trails at your own risk. They are especially dangerous during high wind events. Alternatively, you may ski and snowshoe anywhere on the refuge, although the trails are not groomed.
Cross-country Ski and Snowshoe Conditions.
This winter has been quite warm, but there is good snowcover in some areas. The snow is hard and crusty and the cross-country ski trails are quite icy. If you would like to see the refuge offer cross-country ski and snowshoe programs please email Sara Hollerich day and time suggestions at Sara_Hollerich@fws.gov.
Visitor Center and Drive are Closed for the Season
The Seney National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and Marshland Wildlife Drive will be closed until May 15th. Trails and roads are still open for hiking and biking. Later this winter ski trails will be open for your cross-country skiing pleasure.
