Change in Operations

The National Elk Refuge has temporarily changed its operations in response to the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak.

Effective March 18, 2020:

We are committed to doing our part to slow the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the health and safety of our employees, volunteers, and you – our friends and neighbors. In keeping with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and out an abundance of caution, we are closing the Jackson Hole & Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center to the public. Until further notice, the visitor center will be closed. We will continue to monitor the situation and all relevant guidance and will resume normal hours when it is prudent to do so.

All visitor activities and programs that operate out of the Jackson Hole & Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center have been cancelled for the remainder of the winter season. This includes Winter Sleigh Rides, Naturalist-led Wildlife Excursions, and Feathered Fridays.

The Refuge itself remains open from sunrise to sunset. Note however, that public restrooms, including vault toilets, are closed. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope you enjoy your visit to the Refuge.

Updates will be posted to the website as they are made available.
