Construction on CR 9 and Wildlife Drive

Sherburne County Road 9 is closed to through traffic beginning on September 16 for the road resurfacing project.

  • The road will remain open to local traffic for access to refuge trails and facilities, including Refuge Headquarters, the Oak Savanna Learning Center, Mahnomen, Blue Hill and Oak Savanna Learning Center Trails, Brande Road and the Long Pool Boat Ramp.
  • If you are accessing the Wildlife Drive, we ask you to use an alternate route to get to the entrance road on Sherburne County Road 5.
  • For project updates and timing, please reference the Sherburne County projects page.

Oak Savanna Trail Kiosk Area on the Prairie's Edge Wildlife Drive is under construction.

  • Pit toilet restrooms will remain available for public use throughout the project.
  • At times, the Oak Savanna Trail and adjacent boardwalks will not be accessible.
  • This construction is part of a renovation of this first stop on the Prairie's Edge Wildlife Drive. This project is made possible by the Friends of Sherburne NWR and a NFWF grant.

Refuge entrance kiosks will have signage installed in late fall or during the winter months. In lieu of signage, the kiosks will be stocked with refuge brochures that include maps and information.

Thank you for your patience and understanding! Please call Refuge Headquarters at 763-389-3323 with any questions or concerns.
