Youth Hunt

The refuge is currently reviewing our hunt program and some information on this site is subject to change. Please check back periodically to make sure you are in compliance with the most recent rules and regulations. 

The refuge offers two youth only hunt programs - the Young Waterfowler's Program and the Youth Turkey Hunt. Both programs are open to junior hunters (12-15 years of age) in the state of New York.  

There no fee to participate in these programs. However, a permit is required for all youth hunt programs on the refuge. 


Youth Waterfowler's Program 

The refuge offers a Youth Waterfowler's Program which consists of an orientation day in September or October and the hunt, which is Saturday of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Youth Hunt Weekend. Participants must pre-register to be included in the hunt.

Use this form to to pre-register for the Youth Waterfowler's Program: Waterfowl Lottery Application. All forms must be received between August 15 - September 15 by close of business. Mail or hand deliver applications to the Refuge office at: Iroquois NWR, 1101 Casey Road, Basom, NY 14013.


Youth Turkey Hunt

The refuge hosts a Youth Turkey Hunt in accordance with New York State's Youth Hunt days. Space is limited to 25 participants issued on a first come, first serve basis. 

Permits are available from March 1 - April 1 and valid during the NYS Youth Turkey Hunt days.
