Hunt Information

Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge offers a fully guided youth turkey hunt every year to aid in turkey population management and provide youth hunting opportunities. Up to six randomly selected youth hunters will be selected for an individual weekend to hunt at the refuge with a Fish and Wildlife Service guide. 

Online application has now closed and all applicants should have been notified via email.

 

If you have questions about the hunt please contact the refuge. 

  • The hunt will take place on a Saturday and Sunday (with the exception of April 15 - one day hunt only) and the party should arrive at the refuge office at about 5:00am.
  • One adult and one youth may accompany the youth hunter.
  • Non-toxic turkey shot required with a preferred 12 gauge shotgun.
  • The hunt is guided by a Fish and Wildlife staff member and hunter success is near 100%.
  • Hunter must be legally licensed to hunt in New Mexico and successfully completed hunters education by hunt date.
  • Youth is defined as 17 years old and younger.
  • Drawing will be conducted March 15 and the drawn hunters will be notified by email.
  • Only one youth hunter per application.

  • There will be SIX youth hunters drawn. There were 68 entries in the 2017 lottery.
