Attwater Prairie Chicken FestivalHeld the second weekend in April (unless that is Easter weekend, in which case it will be the weekend prior). For 2014, the Festival will be Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13.
This is the annual celebration of the Attwater’s prairie-chicken and the native coastal prairie that the iconic bird calls home. The festival is typically held the 2nd weekend in April.
Early morning van tours will take participants up to one of the booming grounds to watch the male prairie chicken’s famous courtship dance. Other events this weekend include wildflower and native plant guided tours, bird walks and birding van tours with experienced birders, refuge management tours and a merchandise booth sponsored by the Friends of Attwater Prairie Chicken Refuge.
Sturdy shoes, drinking water, binoculars and/or spotting scopes and field guides are recommended.
