The refuge is a great place for the whole family to enjoy a wide variety of activities. Stop in at the visitor center and see the exhibits. Shop for refuge gear and books at the Nature Shop. Observe and photograph wildlife along the 10 mile auto tour. Stretch your legs on a hike through the loess hills. Go fishing or hunting. Attend an educational program. Bring your students for a field trip. Grab a basket and come foraging for wild edibles. Dogs are welcome too!

Our Species
The refuge is home to 41 known mammal species and 37 reptile species. More than 310 species of resident and migratory birds use the refuge throughout the year. Key species that use the refuge include lesser snow geese, bald eagles and state endangered massasauga rattlesnakes.
Get Involved
Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge has a thriving volunteer program with more than 100 volunteers contributing thousands of hours each year. However, new volunteers are needed every year to help us fulfill our mission. You can be a part of something great!
