At Lostwood Wetland Management District

The Waterfowl Production Areas within Lostwood Wetland Management District offer a quieter, more rugged photography experience across rolling prairie and scattered wetlands. Foot-traffic-only access allows photographers to experience these areas at a slower pace, often resulting in excellent opportunities to capture prairie wildlife, wetland scenes, and sweeping views of the Missouri Coteau. In spring and summer, wetland basins attract muskrats, beavers, and other small mammals that can be photographed along shoreline edges, while prairie vegetation offers close-up opportunities for grasses, wildflowers, and insects. Fall brings vibrant color changes in native grasses and increased wildlife movement. These remote areas provide a peaceful setting for photographers seeking natural, undeveloped landscapes and authentic prairie conditions.
