Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge offers year‑round opportunities for photographers to capture the beauty of the Des Lacs River Valley and its diverse wildlife. Scenic overlooks along the auto tour route, open public‑use areas, and nature trails provide excellent vantage points for landscape and wildlife photography.

Early morning and evening are ideal times to photograph wildlife as animals are more active and lighting conditions are best. Photographers often find opportunities to capture waterfowl, raptors, songbirds, deer, and occasional moose, as well as dramatic skies and seasonal colors across the valley.

Please remain in designated public‑use areas, avoid disturbing wildlife, and follow all refuge regulations while you enjoy your time behind the camera.
