At Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge
The auto tour offers a 19‑mile scenic route through the Des Lacs River Valley. It is part of the North Dakota Scenic Backways program, a network of designated scenic routes across the state. Interpretive panels along the drive highlight the refuge’s wildlife and habitats. The route provides excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing in spring and fall—keep a watchful eye out for deer and the occasional moose.
