CCAST Recent Updates to the Land Treatment Exploration Tool (LTET)

Presenter: Michelle Jefferies/United States Geological Survey (USGS)

The Land Treatment Exploration Tool (LTET) was developed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) to assist land managers planning rangeland restoration and rehabilitation projects. The LTET uses information about past treatments from the Land Treatment Digital Library, a catalog of information about all known treatments on public lands administered by the BLM in the Western United States to facilitate adaptive management of land treatments. The LTET is primarily used by the BLM for post-fire recovery and emergency rehabilitation and stabilization (ESR) planning and has become an essential tool for managers. Michelle will introduce four key updates to the LTET that improve user experience, enhance the accessibility, utility, and efficiency of the LTET, and provide new features for exploring monitoring and vegetation cover data:

  1. ADA-compliant improvements that make the LTET more inclusive and accessible.
  2. A Monitoring tab that displays data collected by the Bureau of Land Management Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring program that users can search through and add to the report generated by the tool.
  3. An interactive time-series vegetation cover figure that displays data from the USGS Rangeland Condition Monitoring Assessment and Projection dataset that includes time-series plots of precipitation, wildfire, and land treatments.
  4. Updated report generation functions that improve efficiency.
