Notes
Upon arrival at 4:55PM, 320 cranes, counted with clicker, were mostly sitting in a grassy field to the east of the pond, with a few standing in the water of the shallow pond at the north end of the pond. Just before it became too dark to see, 196 cranes were observed roosting at southern end of the pond. The other birds had flown out, most to the south towards the Sharon Hollow marshes. I do not know whether I should list the 320 counted at 4:55PM or the 196 seen at 7:06PM. Also observed: 11 cranes, 6 Wilson's snipe, 2 killdeer, 2 pectoral sandpipers, 1 great blue heron, 1 great egret, 1 mallard, 50 red-winged blackbirds, 1 rusty blackbird, 2 crows,, 3 mourning doves, 5 eastern bluebirds, 1 downy woodpecker, 1 hairy woodpecker, 1 pileated woodpecker, 1 dark-eyed junco, and 1 American robin
