About Jade Florence, PhD

Dr. Florence has a Bachelor of Science degree in Bioenvironmental Science from Texas A&M University and a PhD in Botany & Plant Pathology (emphasis in Mycology and minor in Statistics) from Oregon State University. She has worked on a wide variety of projects related to sustainable land use. In her early career, she focused on sustainable agriculture and plant pathology. After completion of her PhD, she joined an international team of scientists to identify an unidentified pathogen of watermelon in Laos, Southeast Asia. Following that work, she led an NRCS Conservation Innovation Grant in Idaho, in which she worked with local farmers to implement conservation measures like creating pollinator and beneficial insect habitat. Following this work, she spent 3 years working on ecological planning and restoration in Texas parks, preserves, and private lands. She now applies her expertise in conservation, restoration ecology, and biology as Species Co-Lead for the Golden-cheeked Warbler. In addition, Dr. Florence has 4 years of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion experience, having chaired two diversity committees and completed 26.5 hours of training.
