Refuge Headquarters Closed to Public

The Washita National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters will be closed to the public from March 4 to April 17, while we complete a much-needed upgrade to our plumbing and septic system. We are still available to answer your questions via phone (580-400-7233) or email (washita@fws.gov).

The 8,075-acre Washita National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1961 to provide a resting and feeding area for migrating and wintering waterfowl.
Refuge Closures

The entire refuge is closed to all entry during the following controlled hunts:

  • Youth Deer Hunts: October 10-11, 2025; November 7-8, 2025.
  • General Deer Hunt: November 11-12, 2025.
  • Youth Turkey Hunt: April 10-12, 2026.

      Washita National Wildlife Refuge is a wintering home for waterfowl and sandhill cranes. The refuge also provides a year-round home for resident wildlife species, and a nesting ground for migratory songbirds.
