Although the refuge does not have ownership of surface waters, the Arroyo Colorado and Laguna Madre are accessible at Adolph Thomae Jr. County Park. Bank and pier fishing, public boat ramps, crabbing and camping are available within the park. Fishing season is year-round. Saltwater species include spotted sea trout, flounder and red drum.
