Artist: Kerissa Nelson, 16
Hometown: Grantsburg, Wis.
Species: Ring-necked ducks
"I always knew I had artistic talent," says Nelson, a native of Grantsburg, Wis. "I enjoyed my art classes at school and always tried my best. When I got into high school, my art teacher, Bruce Teigan, pushed me more than the others had, and introduced me to the Junior Duck Stamp Contest." Nelson went on to intern in the Federal Duck Stamp Office while in college. "You can be an art lover, a nature lover, a conservationist, a duck hunter, or just someone looking to learn a thing or two," she says. "In the end the perk is, you might win."
