Wildlife watching

At Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge

Raptors, shorebirds, and waterfowl abound! Trout and dace flit about the lakes and tease fishermen all year-round. Coyotes, deer, and coots are common residents that are easily spotted, while a more rare sight could be elk that venture down from time to time. You'll find mallards, teals, canvasbacks, scaups, hummingbirds, various sparrows and swallows, it almost seems endless. Plan a trip or two; the changing seasons present opportunities to see the different species in this unique respite of the Ruby Mountains.
