Birding

At Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge

The combination of deciduous woodlands, open water, marsh, and croplands provide excellent habitat for various species of birds. Manipulation of water levels in refuge pools resulting in moist soil areas rich in natural plant and animal life create unlimited food resources for wading birds, marsh and shorebirds, raptors, songbirds and waterfowl.

For a list of species, see our Bird Brochure.

Please note, all areas of the refuge are closed seasonally from Nov. 15th – Mar. 15th. An observation deck located near the visitor center is open year-round.
