Public boat launches are available in Louisiana at Lock 1, Fisherman’s Landing Road, Lock 3, and Poole’s Bluff. In Mississippi public launches are at Walkiah Bluff Water Park, and northwest of Picayune MS at the Dan Tabberer boat launch, located where Burnt Bridge Rd. crosses Hobochitto Creek.
Water levels fluctuate from the summer months when the river is at its lowest, to high flood stages in the winter and spring. Over 90% of the Refuge can become flooded during these seasonal high river periods, creating numerous sloughs, bayous and lakes. Check local conditions before planning a trip.
