Ring-necked Ducks

Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1935 to preserve valuable habitat for waterfowl. The Refuge is 18,300 acres and Rice Lake itself is 4,500 acres. Rice Lake is a shallow, wild rice producing lake, which is a valuable food source for wildlife.

Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge is home to one of the largest concentrations of migrating ring-necked ducks in the country.  During fall migration, more than 150,000 ducks can be found on the Refuge.
