Welcome!
Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge (MBR) lies in northern Utah, where the Bear River flows into the northeast arm of the Great Salt Lake. The Refuge protects the marshes found at the mouth of the Bear River; these marshes are the largest freshwater component of the Great Salt Lake ecosystem. Since these marshes are in turn surrounded by arid desert lands, it is little wonder that they have always been an oasis for waterfowl.
Bird Refuge Road Update
February, 2010
Bird Refuge Road Closure for Culvert Installation
Excellent progress is being made on the Refuge road project this winter. A large box culvert at Black Slough is scheduled for replacement in February. Because of safety concerns, contractors have asked that the road be completely closed during this time.
Forest Street will be closed just west of the wildlife education center, making a detour necessary. Visitors will be able to access the Refuge auto tour route by following a well-marked route. The detour will direct visitors from the center east to 1200 West (the Autoliv road), north to State Road 13, west to the Corrine short-cut, and then south to West Forest Street., where they will be able to continue to the tour loop. Please see the provided map and narrative directions. Maps are also available for pick up at the wildlife education center. This closure will be from Monday, February 8 to Monday, March 8, 2010.
Anyone with questions or concerns is invited to contact the Refuge at 435/ 723-5887 during business hours.
