Overview

Cyrtandra limahuliensis (Cyrtandra kealiae ssp. kealiae), a member of the Gesneriaceae (African violet) family, is an unbranched or few-branched shrub up to 1.5 m (5 ft) tall. The opposite, elliptic leaves are usually 15 to 30 cm (6 to 12 in) long and 5 to 12 cm (2 to 4.7 in) wide. The upper surface of the toothed leaves is moderately hairy and the lower surface, with deep veins, is moderately or densely covered with yellowish brown hairs. Single downy flowers are borne in the leaf axils. The slightly curved corolla tube (fused petals) barely extends beyond the calyx. The calyx encloses the approximately 2 cm (0.8 in) long berries at maturity.
