The Sacramento Fish and Wildlife Office works to ensure the impacts of projects on the fish, wildlife and habitats throughout a wide range of California's mountain, valley and coastal regions are avoided and minimized. With recovery our goal, we work on all aspects of the Endangered Species Act: From listing imperiled species and designating their critical habitat, to ensuring that their continued existence is not jeopardized.
We are responsible for reviewing and permitting projects that have the potential to affect fish and wildlife protected by federal laws. Water supply, flood damage reduction, development and energy projects are major focus areas.
When contaminants such as oil and hazardous substances enter the environment, injuring fish, wildlife and their habitats, we work with others to determine the extent of injuries and require appropriate restoration from those responsible.
