The distinctive habitats on and around Block Island support some of the best sport-fishing in New England. With more than 300 freshwater ponds and the surrounding Atlantic Ocean, almost any type of fishing is available, depending on the season. Typically, peak season is from early spring until late fall. Many anglers come to the shoreline of Block Island National Wildlife Refuge to enjoy the tranquility and to catch striped bass and other species. Anglers may saltwater-fish from the refuge shoreline in accordance with Rhode Island state regulations.
