Atlantic sturgeon tagging

Welcome to the Maryland Fishery Resources Office!

Maryland Fishery Resources Office (MFRO) staff work with public and private partners to protect, restore and enhance fishery and aquatic resources in Maryland and along the Atlantic coast. Significant species include striped bass, Atlantic sturgeon, American shad, American eel, horseshoe crab, and freshwater mussels.

Tag Reports

MFRO biologists coordinate and manage cooperative tagging programs for striped bass, Atlantic and shortnose sturgeon, and horseshoe crab to inform the conservation and management of these species.

If you have caught a tagged Atlantic sturgeon, striped bass, or horseshoe crab, you can help us obtain valuable information by calling 1-800-448-8322 to report a tag or by clicking on the Horseshoe Crab Tag Form above.

This site provides general information about the MFRO and a brief description of current projects. You will also find interesting facts about several aquatic species and links to some of our partners. Please feel free to contact us (410-263-2604) for additional information regarding our fisheries program.
