Recovery of the Federally Listed Endangered
Clubshell and Northern Riffleshell Mussels
in the State of Illinois

Fish and Wildlife Biologist Drew Becker from the Rock Island, Illinois Ecological Services Field Office is part of an assembly line to measure and glue on numbered tags for stocking endangered mussels in the Vermilion River Watershed, Illinois.

The Rock Island, IL Ecological Services Field Office in working with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Illinois Natural History Survey, and private landowners has helped restore a group of very rare mussels in Illinois waters. The restoration project was funded by a natural resource damage settlement. See the link below for more details on the mussel reintroduction and augmentation project in the Vermilion River Watershed in eastern Illinois.
