Back Bay Bash

Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge is kicking off the summer with the Back Bay Bash and Saturday, June 1! There will be fun for all ages at this free event, including kayak demos, a surf fishing clinic, freshwater fishing clinic, guided walks and more. Come on out to try something new, learn something new or share something new with friends and family. Please note, parking is limited, please carpool where possible.

8:00am - Bird Walk (intermediate/advanced birding), Clean the Bay Day Beach Cleanup
9:00am - Festival Activities Begin! Back Bay NWR is excited to offer a variety of activities during this event:
  • Intro to Kayaking Demos (short tours) with Surf and Adventure

  • Surf Fishing Clinic with Virginia Beach Anglers and Friends

  • Freshwater Fishing Clinic with the Izaak Walton League

  • Touch-a-Truck (tractors and Sandbridge Rescue Squad fire truck)

  • Hoverball archery range with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources

  • Backyard Bass Casting Game with False Cape State Park

  • Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response equipment demos

  • Crafts, Temporary Tattoos and More

12:00pm - Nansemond Indian Nation History Program 
1:00pm - Activities wrap up, National Trails Day Hike with Reese Lukei
