National Wildlife Property Repository

Conserving America's Future

Alert <<
The National Wildlife Property Repository (NWPR) has temporarily changed its operations in response to the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak.

The majority of Repository staff will temporarily be moving to telework in accordance with Department guidelines. During this time, please use email as a primary source of communication. (

If you feel there is a critical need to send something to the NWPR during this time, please contact the NWPR staff for guidance at >>

The National Wildlife Property Repository will be undergoing facility construction and renovation to the collection in 2020, anticipated through early 2021. This project will enhance our ability to provide resources for wildlife education and outreach.

During this time, we will be temporarily unable to process donation/loan requests for wildlife property.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and look forward to serving organizations with future requests. We will provide updates on this website when requests will reopen. Organizations that previously submitted a donation request prior to March 1st, 2020 will be processed.

The Donation Program at the National Wildlife Property Repository seeks to aid conservation education and scientific research through property donations and abandonments.

Many of the items we receive can be donated to educational facilities, nonprofit organizations, and conservation agencies to aid in teaching about endangered species and other wildlife. Other items can be sent to scientific institutions to be used in research to develop better identify and/or protect the wildlife. If interested in using wildlife property at your facility or organization for scientific or educational purposes, please submit a letter on official organization letterhead with the following information:

  • Name, address, and phone number of organization requesting the wildlife items
  • Name and title of individual who will be personally responsible for maintaining/securing the wildlife items
  • Description of the organization and what the intended use is of the wildlife items
  • Description of the types of items desired and from what species of wildlife
  • Provisions for securing the items at your facility (cannot be a personal residence)

The letter or email should be signed by upper level management within the organization (Director, Dean, etc) although another member of the organization may be named as custodial officer (point of contact.)
The Repository does not provide a list of available items in our inventory. We will do our best to match property items with your needs. To better serve you your request list should be as specific as possible of species, products (boot, purse, jewelry) or bio-fact (bone, pelt, skull), tanned or untanned hides, mounts, food products or medicinal, and intended message. Please indicate if you are willing to accept untanned hides as we are often better able to fill specific requests. Your facility would be responsible for processing the hide if necessary as the Repository does not cover these costs.
