The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service seeks public comment on a draft Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) for Endangered Sandhills Species at the Clements Property Project in Santa Cruz County, California. The draft plan outlines strategies to avoid, minimize, and mitigate impacts to the federally endangered Mount Hermon June beetle and Zayante band-winged grasshopper from activities necessary for the construction of outdoor recreational facilities.
Ron Clements has submitted an HCP in support of his application for a 3-year incidental take permit pursuant to section 10 of the Endangered Species Act, for impacts to federally-listed species that may occur incidental to otherwise lawful activities. The Service invites comments from the public on the application for a 3-year incidental take permit, including the draft HCP and a low-effect screening form.
A Notice of Availability will publish in the Federal Register on May 1, opening a 30-day comment period that will close on May 31. A copy of the draft HCP and draft low-effect screening form and environmental action statement is available online at http://www.fws.gov/ventura/.
Comments may be submitted by mail to Stephen P. Henry, Field Supervisor, Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office, 2493 Portola Rd, Suite B, Ventura, CA 93003 or by fax to (805) 644-3958.
