The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service seeks public comment on a draft Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) for the San Lorenzo Valley Water District’s Probation Tank Replace Project in Santa Cruz County, California. The draft plan outlines strategies to avoid, minimize, and mitigate impacts to the federally endangered Mount Hermon June beetle and Zayante band-winged grasshopper from the replacement of a water storage tank at the existing water storage tank site in Felton.
The Lorenzo Valley Water District has submitted an HCP in support of their application for an incidental take permit pursuant to section 10 of the Endangered Species Act, for impacts to federally-listed species that may occur incidental to otherwise lawful activities. The Service invites comments from the public on the application for an incidental take permit, including the draft HCP and a low-effect screening form.
A Notice of Availability will publish in the Federal Register on September 7, 2017, opening a 30-day comment period that will close on October 10, 2017. A copy of the draft HCP and draft low-effect screening form and environmental action statement is available online at http://www.fws.gov/ventura/.
Comments may be submitted by mail or hand delivery to Stephen P. Henry, Field Supervisor, Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office, 2493 Portola Rd, Suite B, Ventura, CA 93003 or by fax to (805) 644-3958.
