Know and Relate to the Community

Bloomington, using an Our Town grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, matched Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge with PlaceBase Productions, a Minnesota company that uses art and story to connect people to their common places. Friends audition for parts and promoted the PlaceBase original musical that was performed on the refuge.

Provide Equitable Access

Friends of Parker River Refuge, MA, led a fundraising effort to replace a vandalized beach buggy for people in wheelchairs.

Ensure Visitors Feel Safe and Welcome

Friends of the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, NM, provided funds to buy cameras and field journals so fourth and fifth graders could produce a field guide to the refuge. The guide is still being sold in the nature store four years later.
