Amendment to Maricopa Solar HCP Available for Public Comment On June 21, 2022, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced the availability of a draft amendment to the Maricopa Sun Solar Complex HCP owned by Maricopa Sun, LLC. The amended permit responds to the permittee’s request to extend the existing permit by 15 years, add Kern mallow as a covered species, remove a 483-acre solar site and include battery storage as part of the solar development. The existing HCP includes San Joaquin kit fox, Tipton kangaroo rat, Nelson's antelope squirrel, burrowing owl and blunt-nosed leopard lizard as covered species. The actions proposed within the amendment are not expected to result in additional impacts to the species.   July 21, 2022
