. The new breakwater will enhance and extend the current structure and provide long-term protection to the shoreline and parking area of this popular fishing destination. Construction will require removal of a short section of pier and use of the parking lot as a delivery and staging area. The contractor estimates construction will continue through December 2022.  Updates on progress and closures will be posted periodically on the USFWS in North Carolina Facebook page and on the refuge website. For questions about the project or for information on current closures, please contact the refuge.
