The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in conjunction with the Maryland Natural Resources Police are asking the public for information about a bald eagle that was shot and killed in Caroline County, Md. The Service is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to a conviction.
The eagle was found dead by a local citizen near the intersection of Plummer Lane and Kibler Road on, or about, Jan. 27, 2012.
Although bald eagles are no longer listed under the Endangered Species Act, they are still federally protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act . Maximum fines under these acts are $100,000 and $15,000 respectively, with possible imprisonment up to one year.
