Hurricane Laura

Hurricane Laura made landfall around 1:00 am CT over Lake Charles, Louisiana. While the storm tracked farthereast than originally forecast, the north Texas coast received winds and rain from the storm as well as local evacuation orders. As soon as conditions are deemed safe and staff return to the areas,   damage assessments will begin at Anuhuac, McFaddin and Texas Point Wildlife Refuges. These facilities will remain closed until further notcie. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service continues to work with partners to create a more resilient coast for wildlife and people.

Hurricane Laura Updates

August 31, 2020 
Anahuac, McFaddin, and Texas Point National Wildlife Refuges along the Texas Gulf Coast received little damage from Hurricane Laura. Areas and lands that were closed during the hurricane have re-opened.  All previous COVID-19 closures remain in effect.  Please visit refuge websites for visitor information.
