Mogollon Emphasis Area
Diversity is the Mogollon Emphasis Area! Rising from the borderland Sonoran and Chihuahua deserts, grasslands serve as a sea beneath jutting, pine-topped sky islands. They ascend to the base of the rugged Mogollon escarpment that forms the southern limit of the Colorado Plateau. The Mogollon Rim extends from northwestern Arizona, across heavily forested land and into New Mexico. Much of the land south of the Mogollon lies 4,000 to 5,000 ft. (1,200 to 1,500 m) above sea level, with the escarpment rising to about 8,000 ft. (2,400 m) and tundra-topped peaks above 12,000 ft. (3,851 m). As the land is diverse and unique – so are its flora, fish, wildlife and people.

The priorities established by the Mogollon Emphasis Area Team include: aquatic resources restoration; Mexican wolf recovery; riparian habitat improvement; and Southeast Arizona grasslands conservation.
