East Texas and Oklahoma Emphasis Area
East Texas and Oklahoma are home to some of the most unique and ecologically significant areas in the Southwest. From the limestone aquifers of central Texas to the karst caves in the Oklahoma Ozark Highlands this Emphasis Area contains some of the greatest levels of species diversity in the Region.

The priorities established by the East Texas and Oklahoma Emphasis Area Team include: conserving the Ouachita Uplift and Karst Species; conserving mussel species; protecting the Pineywoods in East Texas; conserving bat and aquatic species in Oklahoma’s Ozark Highlands; and working with the local community to reintroduce paddlefish in the Big Cypress basin.
