Veterans appreciation fishing rodeo

On Friday, May 4, Chattahoochee Forest National Fish Hatchery held its sixth annual Veterans Appreciation Fishing Rodeo. More than 150 U.S. military veterans and family members attended the free event. About 2,800 beautiful Rainbow and some Brook Trout were stocked into Rock Creek for the event including a number of fish each averaging three pounds or more.

Friends of the Hatchery, Project Healing Waters, Fannin County EMS, and Trout Unlimited Chapters of Blairsville, Blue Ridge, Dahlonega, Clarkesville and others assisted with the event. Representatives from the Georgia Department of Veterans Services and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs also were available to provide information to veterans. Lunch from Mike’s Barbeque in Blue Ridge was served to veterans by Friends of the Hatchery. Water was provided by Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola. Doughnuts and coffee were provided by Dunkin’ Donuts – Mineral Bluff location. It was a wonderful day in honor of America’s military.
