Stillwater NWR Complex no longer allows fishing, due to a health advisory issued by the State of Nevada Department of Human Resources Health Division. The advisory specifies that in regards to the Carson River from Dayton to the Lahontan Dam and all waters in the Lahontan Valley, "No gamefish or carp should be consumed..."

Limited waterfowl and upland game hunting is available in accordance with State and refuge regulations.

The refuge is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, but there are no visitor facilities. Roads are primitive and passable only in dry weather.
