Wildlife Observation
A 2-mile self-guided trail through grasslands and ending at the viewing platform overlooking seasonal and permanent wetlands is open the second and fourth Saturday of each month, weather permitting. Additional tours are led by refuge staff and volunteers on a monthly basis, and will be announced in the Stone Lakes Newsletter and on the refuge information line at (916)775-4420. Depending on the season, visitors can expect to see a variety of migrating and resident birds including waterfowl and waterbirds along with a variety of hawks and falcons in the wetlands and riparian areas with good photo opportunities.
