Environmental Education programs for schools, scouts, and other organizations can be arranged on a limited basis in the Spring and Fall. Please contact the refuge office for more information.
Fishing from a boat, in the James River, adjacent to the refuge is encouraged. Fishing from the banks and creeks of the refuge is prohibited.
The Refuge offers shotgun hunts in the Fall for managing white-tailed deer populations. This hunting opportunity is available only to selected applicants chosen by lottery. Contact the Refuge office, (804) 829-9020, for a packet outlining the conditions of the hunt and application procedures.
