Environmental Education
Portions of the refuge are undergoing environmental remediation and closed to the public at the present time. The eastern third of the refuge, however, remains open and provides beautiful vistas and walking trails along 7 miles of Choccolocco Mountain. Brochures that identify areas open for compatible wildlife dependent public uses can be found in the information kiosk along Bains Gap Road at the top of the gap.

The refuge is open during daylight hours only. Bain's Gap Road that traverses the refuge is open from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Due to the Refuge's small staff size, designated office hours can not be established. The Refuge office is located in the cantonement area of the former Fort McClellan.

Entrance Fees
No fee is charged to access Mountain Longleaf NWR.
