Woodmarsh Trail – The three-mile, Woodmarsh Trail loops through a hardwood forest, carpets of ferns, over small streams, and along a marsh. Interpretive panels located near the Woodmarsh Trail parking lot display a trail map and information on plants and wildlife that may be observed on the trail. The trail features an observation platform with a telescope overlooking marsh habitat. Portions of the trail are subject to closure from December through June to protect nesting bald eagles. The trail is open to foot traffic only and pets on leash up to 6 feet.

Joseph V. Gartlan Great Marsh Trail –The Great Marsh Trail is a paved, three-quarter-mile-long, trail following a forested peninsula and ending at an observation platform overlooking the Great Marsh. Information about Joseph V. Gartlan, the Great Marsh Trail, and the Elizabeth Hartwell Mason Neck NWR is available at a kiosk located at the trail head. The observation platform features an accessible telescope and information panels describing typical plants and wildlife found along the trail. The trail is open to foot traffic only, pets on leash up to 6 feet, and accessible to disabled visitors.

High Point Trail – The trail was dedicated at the Elizabeth Hartwell Earth Day in April 2005. High Point Trail is accessible to disabled visitors and open to hiking and biking. Pets are permitted while on leash up to 6 feet. The multipurpose, ADA compliant trail parallels High Point Road and connects the Gunston Road trail to refuge and state park managed trails and facilities.
