Thousands of birds from the Central and Mississippi flyways funnel through here on their way to and from Central and South America. Many bird species, like the Groove-billed Ani, reach the northern limit of their range in South Texas. Green Jays, Chachalacas, Hook-billed Kites, and Great Kiskadees, among others, make Santa Ana NWR one of the top birding destinations in the world.
