Only shells containing USFWS approved nontoxic shot are permitted for hunting.

Hunting of all species not expressly mentioned is prohibited. Please check with the refuge office for the areas open to the different types of hunting.

Small Game: Hunting for quail, rabbits, white-winged and mourning doves is allowed during the appropriate state hunting season.

Big Game Hunting: Hunting for mule deer is allowed during the state hunting season. Hunters may also hunt oryx if they possess a valid New Mexico special year-round off range permit season. Ask for details at the visitor center.

Snow goose and Ross's goose hunting is allowed on the refuge by special permit. Contact the refuge manager for further information on the application process.

The refuge offers a limited youth turkey hunt in the spring for eligible hunters ages 10-17 only. For more information, please contact the refuge manager.
