Beyond Refuges

We, in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, are big fans of fishing at national wildlife refuges and on other public lands. But we know there are thousands of other wonderful places to fish across the nation. Two of our partners — the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) and Fishbrain — can help you find and enjoy those hot fishing spots.
An Interactive Map
The RBFF’s website — TakeMeFishing.org — is a treasure trove of information. It includes an interactive map of places to fish in all 50 states. The map, powered by Fishbrain technology, is searchable and zoomable. A short video tells how to use it.

A Social Fishing App
Fishbrain is a three-pronged smartphone app for recreational anglers.
- It has an interactive map with intel about fishing spots near you.
- It allows you to log your fish catches and share them.
- It lets you connect with fellow anglers (“find and chat with people who love fishing as much as you do”).
Fishbrain users also can log sightings of up to 50 fish and wildlife species whose survival could be at risk. The crowdsourced data helps conservationists determine how they and the public can help protect and conserve wildlife.
