PELICAN ISLAND, Time Capsule Exhibit — March 13, 2003

A full-capacity audience gathered to watch the dedication of the National Wildlife Refuge System's National Centennial Time Capsule Exhibit at the Indian River Mall in Vero Beach, Florida.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Steve Williams and school children from the Pelican Island Elementary School Ecotroop help unveil the time capsule exhibit as the audience cheers.

President Theodore Roosevelt (aka James Foote) tells the audience how proud he is of his conservation legacy. Roosevelt began the National Wildlife Refuge System in 1903 with the establishement of Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge.
