Event Description: The Explore a Bird’s Life Program, to be held at the Seneca Falls, Library, Saturday, April 13, 2013, 1:00-2:30 PM, is an introductory program to the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge’s Family Nature Club. Across the nation, Family Nature Clubs are bringing groups of families together to participate in nature-inspired activities on or off national wildlife refuges. Come on and get out of the house! You can meet up with other nature-curious families and make new friends, while learning new things about the natural world. Nature Family Clubs offer opportunities for families to bond in the presence nature. All programs are designed to be inquisitive, sociable, and fun! The natural world is filled with sights, sounds, and smells that ignite your child’s curiosity and invite active exploration. Experts say, Children who play outdoors with their families are more likely to be less overweight, have better balance and coordination, and higher analytical skills. Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge will host their Explore a Bird’s Life family-fun program at Seneca Falls Library, 47 Cayuga Street Seneca Falls, NY 13148, on Saturday, April 13, 2013, 1:00-2:30 PM. This event is designed to bring all types of families together in an entertaining setting to learn something new about birds and their natural surroundings. You and your family will enjoy an afternoon of fun and discovery as you learn what it is like to be a bird. Explore a Bird’s Life includes: building a nest, making a meal for a bird, following migration patterns and much, much, more! Each activity will have its own station. As you travel to stations you will learn why birds make nests, what birds eat, why Montezuma NWR is so important for birds, and learn to use binoculars and bird identification books. Take home a bird seed cake and a list of common birds to practice identifying birds right at home! You will also learn how you and your family and friends can become part of Montezuma’s first-ever Family Nature Club! These activities will prepare your family for an upcoming Family Nature Club bird watching expedition at Montezuma NWR on May 11, 2013, 10:00-11:30 AM; meet at the Visitor Center. Family Nature Club is still looking for a Lead Volunteer Family to help conduct and implement club meet-ups on or off the Refuge.
